Advantage Xi

Using Advantage Xi with two computers, with the same person.

	The flash drive will contain the Master Database. This contains all the Xi data from any time you synch your changes from any computer.

The Xi software must be loaded on any computer you want to use. The database (the names & addresses etc., that you have keyed into that computer, into Xi) is also on each of those computers. You also have a USB Flash Drive. On that drive, you have what is called the Master Database. That has all the data on it. Only the data - not the software. No Xi license is required for it.

1) When you are leaving the office, you plug the flash drive into the computer and click on synch in Xi. It will take all the changes you made since the last time you synched, and add them to the Master Database on the flash drive.

2) Now you go home, taking the flash drive with you, which has all the changes from the office computer. Plug it into the home computer, and click synch in Xi. It will add all the changes from the office computer.

3) Before you return to the office, you click synch in Xi, and it will add your home computer's changes to the flash drive. Returning to the office, you take the flash drive with you.

4) When you get to the office computer, plug in the flash drive and click synch. This will add all the changes you made on the home computer, to the office computer.

NOTE: Alternatively, you can also use Xi's hosting if you have your own 2 or three computers, and just want to eliminate the need to carry around the USB drive.

Using Advantage Xi on a network.

	There is no need for a server or to use one computer to house the database. The flash drive will contain the Master Database. This contains all the Xi data from any time you synch your changes from any computer.

Through the network, at whatever frequency you set up, the two computers will synch back and forth to each other.

Using Advantage Xi with two or more computers, in different locations.

The computer in the middle is called a server, and it is physically located at an Xi facility. The computers around it, are any computers you have licensed with Xi. Your team's computers, or just yours. This server replaces the USB drive. It now contains everyone's information, because everyone is synching their information to it.

Any one of your team members can work in Xi any time, whether they have Internet access or not, because their database is on their computer. But they will not see anyone else's changes until they go online. When your computer does have Internet access, it is going to automatically talk to the server, and add it's changes to it, by doing what is called synching. At that same time, it will also take everyone else's changes from the server, and synch them to you. Each time you synch, you get everyone's changes and vice versa. This synch process happens automatically, and you determine how often it happens. You can do it once a day, or once an hour.

You can also use Xi's hosting if you just have your own 2 or three computers, and eliminate the need to carry around the USB drive.

The cost for Xi to host your Master Database is $120/yr. for all the computers, not each.

The difference between this, and Web based solutions is called Real Time. If you have a Web based program, you are actually using the software and the database on their servers.

The upside is that everyone sees everyone else's changes virtually immediately. Most people do not really need that, but some do.

The downsides are the monthly expense, sometimes the speed, and not being able to access your database if you can not get online.
