Agent Office versus Top Producer

Following is some information I had written prior to Top Producer Version 7i being a factor.

I've always preferred AO for ease of use/learning curve. It just makes more sense the way it's laid out. As a Real Estate salesperson, I never built myself up, by putting the competition down.  That's just a lazy man's way to do business, and a foolish one at that.  That said, as we are comparing software packages, I see no way to not point out negative issues with what I'm comparing.  So - there are other things about TP that have bothered me. Some instances:

1) One TP user (also the top producer in the entire region) for whom I installed AO, switched because she could not get TP to network for her. AO has networked seamlessly since it came out. (Note that AO is network capable, while TP is an additional cost to be networkable.)  She was upgrading to System 6. It took her 10 hours to bring her database of about 8,000 people into System 6 from the prior version. Speaking with a TP tech, I was incredulous that he shared with me his personal record of a client that took 5 days!  When I brought that same database into AO, it took 10 minutes. Granted, AO only brought in name, address, phones, categories, and notes, but still!

2) TP can not import a simple ASCII file of names and addresses, without being reformatted to their specific parameters. They want $89.95 and 2 to 4 weeks to reformat the file for you, if it's not your initial purchase database import. AO lets you import by identifying the fields of the records you're importing. It works quite nicely.  If you want a TP database imported, contact me, I'll do it cheaper & quicker ;>)

3) In AO, I can import form letters & fliers/presentations. In Top Producer, I can not.

4) Backups take much longer, and take more space on Top Producer, than AO.  Also - EazyBackup will include your AO backup if you choose.

5) TP, owned by Homestore, owner of Realtor.Com, is $495 for the basic program. Support for Top Producer 6i is offered at $129 per year, and includes support for Top Producer for Palm and Top Connector programs.

Agent Office/Online Agent/RE/MAX Agent 2000 is, (click here for current pricing), and that INCLUDES the Palm synch software.  It has also always been networkable.  TP has always charged extra for the network version.  Tech support is $179/year, for the whole product.

6) I have not heard complaints w/r to use with AO and the Palm.  Plenty of complaints with TP & the Palm.
